In this Maulid month, let us express more about Rasulullah not only to our children but also to ourselves so that the love of the Prophet will be deeply enlivened in our heart. At CIC, for the whole month of Rabiul Awwal we will begin the day with a short poem about Rasulullah. Hope our kids slowly understand the message and be able to feel the love. Fly till I die

Daedalus warned his son Icarus not to fly too high, or the sun would melt his waxen wings. But the boy, intoxicated with flight, soared above his cautious father. In the clear blue sky, the warmth of the sun dissolved his delicate wings, causing him to plunge to his death in the green sea below. The myth of Icarus is used to illustrate the ancient Greek word hubris, a term for the overweening human pride and vanity that often result in tragedy.

Jessica Dubroff's wings may have been frosted with ice, and she had no joy of flight on her last ride. She took off in a cold rain and died when her single-engine Cessna 177B nose-dived onto the black tar of a suburban roadway. But her senseless death last week could also be attributed to a modern kind of hubris. For Jessica was urged on by overzealous parents, by a media drawn to a natural human-interest story and by a willfully blind Federal Aviation Administration, which permitted a 4-ft. 2-in., 55-lb. seven-year-old whose feet did not reach the rudder pedals to fly an airplane across the country in a misbegotten publicity stunt--as long as a licensed pilot was beside her. At week's end a federal investigator suggested that Jessica's Cessna was overloaded for the thin Rocky Mountain air and wind shear may have induced the flight instructor to take over the controls in the plane's last few moments.

The brief flight and violent fall of Jessica, her father Lloyd and flight instructor Joe Reid was seized upon and transformed into a kind of modern morality tale of parents looking for meaning and morning shows searching for novelty. On talk radio and in coffee shops, her soaring spirit and tragic plunge were the subjects of outrage and debate. Overnight she became the poster child of parental and media exploitation, of an ethos that granted children too much freedom rather than too little, of a parental drive not content to let children be children. Many wondered whether the freedom to pursue personal identity had been pushed too far.

Reared by separated parents whose fuzzy New Age philosophy was that children should follow their bliss, Jessica was encouraged to pursue an adult ambition that ill fitted her. After her death so many of the bright words that preceded the trip take on a grimly poetic quality. Her father, in Cheyenne after the first leg: "This started off as a father-daughter adventure, and it's gotten wonderfully out of hand." Jessica, to the Times of London: "I'm going to fly till I die." Her father: "I think I finally got my job description in order as a parent. I used to think being a parent meant teaching things. Now I feel my job is to help them learn by exposing them to new experience."

The hype of the whole enterprise, in retrospect, seems reckless. Let us tick off the deceptions that everyone involved pretended were true: the trip was Jessica's idea; she was doing it for the joy of flying; she was truly piloting the plane; it was safe; she wasn't scared. For the most part, the public played along with this game, for it is easier not to question the received platitudes. Yet, looking at her taped interviews after the fact, it is clear that the dutiful little girl who didn't want to disappoint her father, who insisted, "I fly for joy," looked anything but joyful.

Instead of a bogus record that inevitably would have been challenged by a still younger child (the Guinness Book of Records officially discontinued its Youngest Pilot categories in 1989, fearing accidents), Americans have a macabre photo album of little Jessica. A mini-Amelia Earhart, in a leather bomber jacket and riding pants. A plucky, pug-nosed girl in a baseball cap who seemed more at home on one of her beloved ponies than in a plane.

Jessica's quest to become the youngest person to fly across the continent began last Wednesday in Half Moon Bay, California. She was to fly east in three legs, laying over in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, before finally reaching Falmouth, Massachusetts, the town where she was born. She had bumped down in Cheyenne on Wednesday night in a heavy crosswind. "The wind was pushing us out," she told reporters. "You just have to give the plane more power." According to her father, she had been assisted in the landing by Reid, her flight instructor, a veteran pilot and the president of the Half Moon Bay Pilots Association who had given her 35 hours of flying lessons. "We're trying to set a record," her father said, "but we're not trying to be stupid about it."

At the Cheyenne airport, the publicity machine went into action. The arrival was recorded by camera crews and a clutch of reporters, notebooks in hand. An exhausted Jessica seemed to understand that she always had to appear perky. "I enjoyed it," she said, forcing a smile, sounding, as always, like she was imitating adult speech. "I had two hours sleep last night." She was due to take off at 8:20 the next morning.

Cheyenne is a high-altitude airport, 6,156 ft. above sea level. The thinner air requires longer takeoff runs, and the pilot must factor this into the flight plan. "You may ask whether a seven-year-old did the figuring, and I don't know," says Charles Porter of Sky Harbor Air Service in Cheyenne. "A lot of pilots whose time is limited to sea level have forgotten and ended up in the golf course." The weather was ugly. A thunderstorm was moving in from the northwest, winds were 25 to 30 m.p.h. Thunderstorms are a potent cocktail for pilots, a possible mixture of updrafts, downdrafts, turbulence, icing and hail all at once. "I would have taxied up the runway and headed back," says "Red" Kelso of Cheyenne, a retired pilot with 52 years of flying experience. "There's no way I would have gone up in weather like that."

"The pilot is the person responsible for evaluating the weather conditions and determining whether to go," says airport manager Jerry Olson. The weather conditions were VFR--visual-flight rules--meaning instruments were not required, although another plane warned the control tower of wind shear. Jessica spoke to her mother on a cellphone as the plane was taxiing. "Mom, do you hear the rain?"

It was a sluggish, shaky takeoff. The four-seat Cessna seemed to shudder from the moment it lifted off Runway 30, and investigators have suggested it was too heavy for the conditions at that altitude. Everyone on board must have instantly realized something was wrong. Jessica's plane was equipped with dual controls, so that Reid could immediately take over in an emergency, and presumably he did--his arms were fractured more severely than hers, suggesting he had his hands on the yoke. In such a situation, an experienced pilot might have landed the plane on the golf course at the end of the runway or the four-lane road near the crash site. Instead, the Cessna was attempting a 180 [degree] turn to make its way back to the runway when it appeared to stall. For a moment, it seemed to stop in midair before it plunged vertically near the driveway of a single-story brick house about a mile north of the airport. It crumpled like a giant child's toy. Tom Johnson, a former pilot and claims adjuster for State Farm, was driving nearby and witnessed the crash. "It was struggling. You could tell it was overloaded," he said. "It fell like a lawn dart, straight down." According to the authorities, everyone on board was killed on impact.

Within half an hour, the plane was covered with a tarpaulin, like a shroud. Only its red-white-and-blue tail peeked out from beneath the covering. Soon the people of Cheyenne began to visit the crash site, leaving poems, flowers and stuffed animals. Two investigators for the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene within a few hours. The plane did not have a flight recorder, nor was it required to have one. Steve McCreary, an ntsb investigator, could not say whether Reid had declared some sort of emergency before the crash.

Experienced pilots were left to wonder what happened. Perhaps Jessica would not have been able to maneuver out of the storm, but Reid certainly would have. Warren Morningstar of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, said, with dual controls "the pilot in command can easily control the aircraft from either seat. There is never a situation in which the nonpilot can put the plane into such immediate peril that there is no recovery." Only after an analysis and "probable cause" finding in about six months will the FAA review its regulations covering young pilots.

Jessica's parents seemed determined to give their daughter independence from the start: she was delivered in a birthing tub without benefit of doctor or midwife. Her mother Lisa Blair Hathaway says she wanted her daughter to have a feeling of "floating." Her parents seemed to embrace a philosophy that was a mishmash of '60s idealism, Emersonian self-reliance and New Age cliche. Hathaway describes herself as an artist and a spiritual healer. While Jessica was mostly raised in Massachusetts, she lived in Pescadero, California, a tiny onetime fishing village where old dogs lazily patrol the streets because there is no traffic. It was 25 miles to Jessica's father's home in suburban San Mateo County, where he worked as a corporate consultant and lived with his current wife. Jessica and her mother lived in a house without television, which explains why Jessica's mother did not know who Jane Pauley was when the NBC star came to call after Jessica's death.

Real life was the best tutor, experience the best preparation for life. That was the attitude of Jessica's parents, and as a result, they kept Jessica, her brother Joshua, 9, and sister Jasmine, 3, at home--without filing a home-schooling plan with the local authorities. Hathaway seemed to have a reflexive distrust for institutions and convention and a fear of stifling her children. Jessica did not have dolls but tools. Instead of studying grammar, the children did chores and sought what their mother called "mastery." Boundaries seemed to be off limits, and parenting seemed to consist of cheerleading. "They're getting a tremendous education from having their lives be in the real world," Hathaway had said. "What it takes to get this flight scheduled and done is much better than sitting in a math classroom." Whether or not her children could do long division, they were seen by the townspeople who knew them as bright, curious and confident. "You get the feeling that everyone in the family was at peace," says Zona O'Neill, a Massachusetts friend. "My children enjoyed being around them because they were so loving and happy."

Jessica became interested in flying after her parents gave her an airplane ride for her sixth birthday, which was only 23 months ago. She began taking flying lessons twice a week with Reid, who said she was an able pilot, though what that means for a seven-year-old is open to question. Her father footed the bill for the flying lessons--about $50 an hour--and also shelled out about $15,000 for the cross-country odyssey. "That's less than I'd pay for private school," Dubroff told the San Francisco Examiner.

He also admitted that "the trip was my idea but was presented to Jessica for her choice." No one disputes the girl was gung-ho, and her father became her press agent, courting all the usual engines of modern publicity: TV, radio, print. For all their New Age patter, Jessica's mother and father seemed to be stage parents of the old school, pushing their daughter in front of the curtain, hoping she would become a star, Macaulay Culkin in a cockpit. The week before the flight Jessica handed out signed photographs to members of the Half Moon city council. Dubroff spent $1,300 on custom-made baseball caps to distribute to friends and the media. They read, JESSICA WHITNEY DUBROFF, SEA TO SHINING SEA, april 1996. He also primed her to write a letter to President Clinton, inviting him along for a ride. "To visit you at the White House would be wonderful," she wrote in her simple, child's hand, "and clearly to pilot an airplane that you would be in would bring me even greater joy." (The White House did not accept.)

But Jessica's flight plan found a receptive audience at the television networks. It was an ideal human-interest story. Upbeat. A natural narrative. Good visuals. A telegenic little girl with a dusting of freckles on her nose. A challenge. A record. Triumph. End with slo-mo of Jessica throwing her baseball cap in the air. Music from Chariots of Fire.

NBC's Today show did an interview with Jessica, her father and her flight instructor. CBS's overnight broadcast did a five-minute interview with Jessica and her dad in Cheyenne the morning before her last flight. The day before the flight, ABC gave Lloyd a Hi8 video camera, so he could "document the flight," an ABC spokeswoman said.

But even while they were covering the event, some at the networks were chary. This was not a child prodigy playing the violin at Carnegie Hall but a first-grader flying across the country. There was something queasy about the whole thing, a little girl going too far in pretending to be an adult. On Good Morning America, Forrest Sawyer asked Lloyd Dubroff, "[The flight] does raise the question...I mean, when we hear this, we're kind of shocked. Is it illegal or dangerous or anything like that?"

To its credit, ABC confronted the issue of whether television was complicit in the tragedy. On Nightline, Ted Koppel spoke for the network when he said, "We need to begin by acknowledging our own contribution...We feed one another: those of you looking for publicity and those of us looking for stories." Then he posed the question of "whether we in the media...by our ravenous attention contribute to this phenomenon," and answered it himself: "We did."

J. Mac McClellan, editor in chief of Flying magazine, agrees. "Jessica's flight is the kind of thing that, absent media coverage, would never have happened," he says. So-called flying records by youngsters, he maintains, are a bogus concept. "We've intentionally ignored attempts like this here at Flying because we didn't want to promote the activity. It has no validity from an aviation sense; the pilot in reality is the certified pilot." The FAA regulations that allow children "to fly" with a certified pilot at the other controls are intended to facilitate teaching, not to encourage stunts. In what seems a semantic distinction, the FAA says Jessica was technically a passenger; a pilot must be at least 16 and have a license.

The gruesome irony is that the crash proved to be the best television story of all.

Jessica completing her journey would have been the spirit-lifting final story on the evening news, the tale of human triumph over which anchors could smile winsomely and then say good-night, leaving the viewer with the feeling that all was right with the world. But Jessica's plane crash led all three network news broadcasts and headlined the front pages of newspapers across the country.

That night and the next morning, TV viewers were treated to a spectacle almost as disturbing as the accident itself: Jessica's eerily composed mother saying that if she had to do it over again, she would have done nothing differently. In Falmouth, where she got the news while waiting for her daughter's arrival, she declared, "I would want all my children to die in a state of joy. I would prefer it was not at the age of seven." The next morning she appeared on the Today show and told Katie Couric, "I'd have her do it again in a second. You have no idea what this meant to Jess." She even vowed to make sure the FAA doesn't revise its rules: "I can't bear the thought of them changing anything. Talk about setting people back!" Even at the crash site in Cheyenne, where she arrived with flowers in the afternoon, she continued to explain her philosophy of life. When a small boy tried to give her a teddy bear, she refused it, explaining that her children do not play with toys.

In Cheyenne on Friday evening, in an interview with TIME, she defended her own response to her daughter's death. Clutching a plastic bag of Jessica's clothes, she said defiantly, "I know what people want. Tears. But I will not do that. Emotion is unnatural. There is something untruthful about it." When she and her son Josh received the news of Jessica's death, Hathaway said, "Josh started to cry." Then she rephrased the sentence, as if the verb were somehow incorrect. "No, I would rather say he was in tears. He said he didn't want to fly anymore. I begged him to re-choose based on what he wanted instead of reacting to someone else's choice."

Jessica's mother even attached a patriotic gloss to Jessica's death, putting it in the context of the Declaration's rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." "I did everything so this child could have freedom and choice," she told Today, "and have what America stands for. Liberty comes from being in that space of just living your life." But the Founding Fathers made a distinction between liberty and license, the latter being freedom that is used irresponsibly. License may have been precisely the freedom Jessica's parents gave her.

One of the notes placed at the crash site says simply, "God's newest little angel." But angels, of course, have wings to fly.

High school student Daniel cheers describes how his reaction to his mother's death from cancer turned from shock and stoicism to confusion and guilt.
I’d always been closest to my mum. She would help me with tricky assignment ,fashion advise, and although she never had the chance I know she would have loved to have fixed my girl troubles. Her calming influence is something I’ll sorely miss this year during my final year of high school. But my love for my mother got a bit lost in the chaos of my early teens. I knew I could depend on her for love and support, and there was a hug waiting for me every day when I got home from school, but between schoolwork and social dramas I never found the time to truly value her. I suppose this was the foundation of my fear that I didn’t care enough.

The first hint that Mum was no longer invincible came when I went with my parents to a medical centre where they did MRIs, one of the many terms which, at the point, I had only experienced on TV. Even now I feel distant from it, as through a part of me still believes that tragedy happens in everyone else’s family. I sat in the waiting room and watched Maybe Diva win her third Melbourne Cup [in 2005], and so began the semi-nomadic existence that was to be our lives for the next six months. School.waiting room, hospital rooms, intensive care unit (yuck) and finally back home to sleep. Mum and dad sat my sister and I down at the kitchen bench and told us Mum had a tumour in her hip. Words like benign and malignant were mentioned, life-changing words, although I didn’t realise that at the time. I didn’t panic; I didn’t have any reason to worry. The doctors would biopsy it and fix it and it’d be cool, just another event for Mum to get the family through.It’s been a tradition in our family to navigate Sydney in relation to cake shops. Destinations were near or on the way to patisseries. That was how our lives operated; leisurely enough that cake played a major role. By the time Mum had been sick for a few months, Sydney was instead a series of hospitals and medical centres. Cakes became less important. I won an award at presentation day the year Mum was sick. I didn’t realise she was there at the time, but I can imagine now my heroic year adviser ensuring that my parents were seated well before the rush of students, in a spot next to the door in case mum was sick. Every prize since then has brought Dad to tears and hug we share in that moment is always emotional. My school result take on a new meaning when he says she’d be proud of me. Mum was staying in hospital for a week or so while she recovered from a spinal operation, but the week became months and soon I was accustomed to having no parent at home. My younger sister and I learnt to cook and, essentially, how to look after ourselves. This was a revolutionary notion to us, a pair of heavily parented kids.When given the option, I always chose to hear the medical details of what was happening to Mum. If I knew what was happening in scientific, objective terms it was easy for me to assume that the doctors would be able to fix it. Once I’d made the unknown known it stopped being scary. In retrospect, I think that by hearing Mum’s illness described in medical terms I could distance myself from it. I could still believe on some level that it wasn’t my mother they were talking about. Once Mum started to deteriorate, she asked to be told in advance if my sister and I were coming. She’d go to great lengths to ensure that her usually pale face was made up with help from the nurses. It was her way of making sure we never saw her at her weakest. Although at the time I might not have, now I appreciate this small effort. No child should have cancer and treatments.Because of the cancer, the woman who made the family what it was – who would keep us together in any disaster, whether it was chickenpox or alien invasion – now could only wince at the bump caused by my poor wheelchair-steering or, after an apparently successful operation, lie unconscious, attached to a machine that breathed for her.Even the friendliest nurses could not remove the atmosphere of helplessness and illness that for me filled every hospital. Standing in the corridors I once witnessed a pair of nurses wheel a sheet-covered body from an adjacent room. They glanced at me guiltily and I knew that this wasn’t something they wanted me to see. To be confronted with death, at this late stage of my mum’s cancer, was a haunting experience. I couldn’t help but see the same thing happened to Mum.The day it happened I had been to visit her in hospital. She’d been getting better – I even announced to my friends that my mum would come home soon and it was all going to be OK – but over the last week everything had gone downhill rapidly. I suppose that cancer. I spend a long time at her bedside and although she was a sleep I held her hand, something I didn’t often do. At one point she woke up hand snatched her hand away. I can only guess, but I don’t think she was ready for me to start making the most of our remaining time together. Once she’d fallen asleep again I began to leave but I paused at the door and said, “I love you.” I’m so glad I did.That night, Dad came home and told us that she had died. Neither my sister nor I wanted to see her body, choosing to remember her as she was alive. The three of us violently embraced, determined never to let each other go, as though if we held on tight enough we wouldn’t lose anyone else. We spent the rest of the night in front of mindless sitcoms, sitting through episode after episode rather that deal with the alternative. Over the next week we planned the funeral and caught up on lost sleep between visits from family and friends. We didn’t have time to realise she’d never be there again.The small speech I’d prepared for her funeral must have been barely hundred words, but I can remember standing ,shaking at the pulpit for an eternity. My dad had always maintained that a speech should ‘make ‘em laugh and make ‘em cry” , a saying I was thankful for when the audience’s laughter gave me slight reprieve. But it wasn’t until after I’d sat down that I stopped shaking. I’d always turned to my mum for help with speeches, anything written. She had been, among many things, an author and had read to me since I was two weeks old. I was moving to the rhythm of Crocodile Beat before I could due, at least partially, to her. The wake was a mess of second and third cousins I had never met before and haven’t seen since. Distant family members used it as an opportunity to catch up with each other, or tell me I was a poet-a title I was more than happy to receive; any link between mum and me was something to be treasured. The Distance that had grown between my mother and I while she was sick meant that to me, she could still be lying in bed at the hospital. But after a week of people telling me how sorry they were, it began to sink in. The shock of the first weeks gradually became confusion and guilt about how I had reacted. I felt I wasn’t as upset as everyone else because I hadn’t cried. I couldn’t help but wonder why. Why did I cope with it so well? Why didn’t I need counselling like the rest of my family? Why wouldn’t I cry? I felt like I must not have valued her enough. I’ve been told numerous times that people grieve differently. But that didn’t prevent me doubting the strength of my love for my mother.It was especially confusing because, since my mum’s death, my life had become suddenly easier. There were no more takeaway dinners in front of hospital TVs or homework in waiting rooms and no Intensive Care Units, which to me were full of machines, tubes and beeps more terrifying that an invisible cancer. After six months of that hospital smell ,it was a relief to know I didn’t have to go back. And that only made me feel guilty. Within weeks I could return to a life of relative normality, but I hated to think that things could be normal without my mum, as though this was an insult to her.Just to make me feel worse, I couldn’t help but think that I had become a better person because of my time without her. I was more independent and mature, but I didn’t want to be stronger because of her death. I wanted it to make me feel terrible and weak, but the six months of her cancer had prepared me for her death. All I can do is remember that there were things she hadn’t yet taught me, wisdom she still had to impart. As I’ve grown older, the hardest part of her death has been that I never got to know her as an equal. To me she was a super here, just my mum, without fault. Had she been around for longer I would have been able to see her as a person with her own weaknesses and love her in a completely new way. Even in the last six months, despite no longer being invincible, she still wasn’t quite human. She didn’t have faults, she had cancer.

H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) in Malaysia

Dear parents,
As we are aware, the swine flu crisis is already spreading across Mexico to other countries. There are few cases reported in Malaysia. Therefore we at CIC has taken a few precautions steps in order to prevent from germ and sickness at our centres. Symptoms of the strain of swine flu are similar to other types of flu and include fever, sore throat, coughing, aches, headaches and chills. Our preventive steps include: frequent hand-washing at every 30 minutes, we advice children to cover their mouth with tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue into a waste basket, keeping hands away from eyes, mouth and nose, we will also close our indoor area section by section to clean up with antiseptic . We strongly advice the parents to keep their children who are sick at home and if possible to pick up the children early from school to avoid or reduce time of group interaction in school.

CIC trip to KL Bird Park

On 8th May 2009, CIC had organized a trip to KL Bird Park. The Bird Park is "The World's Largest Covered Bird Park" or "The World's largest Free Flight Aviary". The Group left in five buses around 8.30am and arrived at the KL Bird Park at about 10.30am. Around 221 students participated on this trip together with 22 teachers. The park was quite well maintained, and it was not crowded. Hence, the group took a slow walk around the park checking out all types of birds. There were also a lot of monkeys in the park. The class teachers were responsible for guiding their own students into the park. The students explored more about the birds like Flamingos, Hornbills, Waterhens, Parrots, Cockatoos, Storks, Pheasants, Mynahs Pigeons, Macaws and Ducks.

CIC’s Children were very excited to see the bird show organized by the Bird Park. There were about four parrots that were performing all sorts of tasks given to them by the host - bicycle riding, rolling, flying through circles, solving simple arithmetic tasks, and so on. The show went on for about 30 minutes. Another show was about the eagle where the trainer showed how to feed the eagle. Although it was tiring, the children had enjoyed themselves, learnt something and made some new friends. Most important that the team spirit was established among them.

Mini Sports Day at CIC

It was a big day for the tiny tots of Children Islamic Centre (CIC) who celebrated their Mini sports day today. This sports day had a specific theme “animal” and the children were grouped according to animals’ names. There was excitement in the air as the kids waited for the games to begin.

Games such as “spell correct”, “duck walk”, “frog jump” and “read & action” brought out the best from the kids. Following this, each class demonstrated their games skills and teamwork with their own activities. There were also some light moments when the kids stumbled and fumbled in their acts, or joyous moments for the winners, and disappointed faces for those who were a little slow in getting to the finishing line.

All agreed the sports day was celebrated with much vigour and was an occasion for them to remember.

Celebration of Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW

Parents will not forget to celebrate their children’s birthday. At CIC, birthday party not only for the children, but for the Prophet SAW too. In order to instil the love of the Prophet in the children’s heart so that the children will then grow up loving this noble man and influenced by his behaviour, CIC decides celebration of his birthday should be a memorable one.

For that CIC had organized Maulidur Rasul Celebration on 10th March 2009 in all the branches. The programme started with a speech followed by Salawat reciting. CIC also organized Azan competition and Hafazan competition for the children.

In additional to that, students of CIC also performed Nasyid and made the event more joyful. The programme ended with gifts exchanging among the children and lunch. We at CIC, hope to organize this kind of programme in the future as an appreciation to our beloved prophet SAW, may Allah bless us.

Pendahuluan:

Pusat Pemkembangan Kanak-kanak CIC (singkatan daripada Children Islamic Centre) diasaskan sejak 1997. Kini ada 10 cawangan di Putrajaya, Bangi, Puchong, Kota Damansara, Setapak, Kota Bharu, Bdr Darulaman. CIC kini akan mengfrancaiskan perniagaan ini pada mrk yang berminat.

Q1. Kenapa orang suka CIC?

- Customers suka sbb CIC adalah pusat setempat utk pendidikan anak-anak. Ibubapa yang bekerja tidak perlu fikir apa yang perlu diajar pada anak dan di mana pula hendak menghantar anak untuk jagaan. Semua CIC tolong fikirkan. Kita bagi pendidikan yang menyeluruh pada kanak-kanak Islam. Ibubapa mahukan agama, kecemerlangan dalam akademik, kebolehan berbahasa Inggeris, kreatif, pandai bergaul dan yakin pada diri. Lebih lama contact hours di CIC lebih bagus pencapaian. Ibubapa yg bekerja suka menghantar anak-anak mereka untuk ikuti program sepenuh hari kita. Walaupun ada pembantu di rumah, tapi jika tempoh pembelajaran hanya 3 jam, kemudian balik rumah menonton TV seharian, tentu tidak efektif. Ada yang berpendapat boleh belajar melalui rancangan pendidikan dalam TV, tapi pada saya kemudahan teknologi tidak dapat menggantikan pendidikan secara tradisional, proses kefahaman dan pendalaman ilmu dilakukan secara normal, kanak-kanak akan pandai berinteraksi, mata pun tidak rosak akibat terdedah banyak pada TV dan komputer.

Q2. Industri ini sudah lama, kenapa puan memilih untuk melakukannya?

Memang, industri ini sangat lama, ianya tugas asasi ibubapa khususnya ibu. Tapi apabila ibubapa tidak lagi boleh menumpukan tugas mendidik anak ini, ianya mula dilakukan oleh pendidik sepenuh masa. Sebenarnya ianya sangat bagus.

Zaman dulu, seseorang individu memasak, menjahit baju, mendidik anak, membuat kasut dengan sendiri. Tetapi dengan cara begitu produktiviti mereka tidak tinggi. Apabila tiba zaman industri, manusia melakukannya sesuatu kerja dengan mahir. Kalau dulu seseorang itu hanya menjahit baju sepasang sebulan, dengan tingkatkan kemahiran, tumpuan dan bantuan machine contohnya, dia boleh menghasilkan 100 helai baju sehari. Pakaian yang dihasilkan pula cantik dan bermutu. Lahir lah barangan yg berjenama. Si tukang jam membuat jam dengan begitu berkualiti seperti Rolex, Pattek Philips sehingga dapat diwarisi kepada generasi akan datang. Begitu juga hal masakan. Kita perlukan seorg ibu yg memasak sampai menjadi Chef, mungkin sampai peringkat antarabangsa supaya produktiviti meningkat, boleh menyumbang pada negara dan dunia. Ibu tadi sudah tentu memerlukan pusat didikan yang specialize dalam didikan anak-anak. Untuk boleh melakukan yang terbaik, seseorang perlu melakukannya secara sepenuh masa, sistematik, dan berasaskan ilmu pengetahuan yang komprehensif dan kajian.

Pendidikan kanak-kanak sebegini mula dilakukan oleh Christian Missioneries. Dr Maria Montessori salah seorang daripada mereka. Dia mencipta kaedah belajar untuk kanak-kanak istimewa. Di Malaysia, tadika mula diadakan di gereja Kristian. Kemudian diikuti oleh badan-badan sosial seperti Kemas, Taski Abim, Pasti dan sebagainya. Tapi seperti yang saya kata tadi, untuk menghasilkan yang terbaik, kita perlu melakukan secara sepenuh masa. Jadi pusat yang diasaskan oleh badan-badan sosial amat susah kerana pendapatan yg tidak seberapa tidak boleh menampung kos. Malah susah untuk mencari mereka yang mahu terus memahirkan diri dalam bidang ini kerana kurang insentif. Sebab itu CIC mengambil tanggung jawab ini dengan bayaran yang relatifnya rendah berbanding dengan program yang ditawarkn.

Q.3 CIC yakin boleh berkembang?

Alhamdulillah kita sudah ada 10 centres. Untuk tahun-tahun awal kita tidak membuka banyak cawangan kerana kita menumpukan pembinaan dalaman. Kini saya yakin, InsyaAllah CIC dapat berkembang dengan baik kerana mempunyai asas dan sistem yang kukuh. CIC berada di dalam service industry, ianya adalah labor intensive company. Membina pasukan yang baik adalah sangat susah kerana kita berurusan dengan manusia. Lebih payah bila ianya melibatkan orang Melayu. Tambahan pula CIC memerlukan staf yang berkebolehan dalam beberapa cabang ilmu, mereka itu mesti seimbang. Susah juga nak cari staf yang sangat layak. Jadi saya kurangkan pergantungan pada staf dengan mengadakan sistem pembelajaran yg saya atur sendiri. Jadi staf kurang terlatih pun boleh ikutinya. Yang penting kita ada sistem checking yang berkesan.

Q.4 Apa servis utama CIC dan adakah saranan puan pada ibubapa?

Prasekolah utk kanak-kanak 4-6 tahun, playschool 2-3 tahun, after school program & KAFA untuk 7-12 tahun. Hidup kita adalah sesuatu yg penuh makna. Saya mahu bila kita jadi Muslim ianya benar-benar bermakna. Seseorang tidak boleh hayati agama melainkan dengan kecintaan yg tulus pd Allah, Rasul & keluarga baginda serta kaum Muslimin. Lihat sahaja pada amalan agama seperti ibadat haji, melontar di Jamrah, jika diukur dengan akal semata tentu pelik. Tapi dengan cinta, seseorang akan lakukan apa sahaja. Cinta kepada Islam serta kaum Muslimin ini perlu dijadikan sebahagian hidup kita. Nabi bersabda "Sesiapa yang tidak mengambil berat urusan kaum Muslimin maka bukan lah sebahagian daripadanya”. Kita lihat hari ini berapa ramai di kalangan kita yang prihatin tentang saudara kita di Palestin. Kita mahu generasi baru Islam khususnya Melayu, mampu mewakili Islam di peringkat antarabangsa, sudah tentu kita tidak boleh berharap pada kaum Arab. Kita mahukan generasi yang cintakan Islam dan memimpin dunia. Tapi kita mmg kena seimbang, tidak boleh extreme ke kiri atau ke kanan kerana adil atau seimbang itulah Islam. Hari ini kita lihat ada yang berimejkan Islam tapi sebaliknya memberikan imej buruk pada Islam. Mungkin anda boleh mulakan dengan memberikan pendidikan Islam yang progresif seperti CIC kepada generasi baru kita. Saya percaya Islam yang dibawa Nabi itu hidup bukan disimpan di dalam buku, tentu saja Islam dapat memimpin dunia mungkin melalui anak-anak kita. Dengan itu saya berharap ibubapa akan memberikan sokongan yang berterusan pada CIC.

CIC VISION'S TO GIVE BIRTH TO FUTURE PM

After more than a decade in the early childhood industry, the founder of Children Islamic Centre or better known as CIC, Hjh Qutren Nada has brought CIC into a new phase. As CIC has established itself as a leading Muslim Early Childhood Education, now at its 2nd phase, she is introducing its leadership programs. As a start, the programs will be offered at selected branches of CICs.

Describing the value of such program, Hjh Qutren says, “developing leaders is not a cheap job. It needs participations from all parties in various aspects. As you know, not many Muslims especially Malays involve seriously in this field. Many choose teaching as their profession because they do not have other options. Some are very good but they are not supported by good team. It is such a big challenge to develop good team in Malay community. Anyway, I disagree with the view that the Chinese and Indians are better as I believe that the true teachings of Islam can produce man with perfect qualities. But Chinese and Indians dominate because they have enough supports from staffs and customers. At CIC we continuously train the staffs. It needs lot of resources including money and time. We have our quality control and KPIs. Some are not ready. They can come and go but we will continue to progress”.

Hjh Qutren congratulates parents who are committed to raising their children well. But this lady the founder of CIC and owner of other businesses with more than 40 employees, advises parents especially mothers to open their interest on many angles not only limited to their family affairs. “I have seen in many leaders, their mothers were great. Like Maryam the Prophet Isa’s mother, she was great. She was different from other ladies in term of beliefs, thoughts and actions. Fatimah Azzahra, the Kawthar of the Prophet had great mother, Khadijah Binti Khuwailid. Even most of the great leaders in this world, whether they are leaders in politics or leaders in sciences, they have great mothers who rear them. The mother can be real mother or foster mother. Like Imam Khomeini he had strong character, he was brought up by his aunt who was strong”, she said.

She sums up that with high love and high rules, children are very self-reliant and cheerful. They can cope well with stress and achievement oriented. I believed Tun Mahathir was brought up in this way.

With low love, high rules, children are moody, unhappy, often unfriendly and vulnerable to stress. With high love, low rules children are impulsive-aggressive, rebellious, domineering and low achievers. With low love, low rules, children have psychological problems, are immature and uninvolved.

Routine Dental Check-Up for Children

All children need to have routine dental exams starting around the age of four, or sooner they will have dental problems.
At CIC, we put great importance in hygiene management for the students. For this purpose, dental check up becomes one of our priority programs each year.
During these exams the child's teeth will be carefully inspected, cleaned, checked for cavities, be given fluoride treatments and possibly have x-rays to check their teeth thoroughly.
It is suggested that we should visit the dentist every six months for a dental exam and cleaning. So, don’t forget to bring our future leader so that they will be more confident in front of others.

Spelling Made Fun…..

Spelling has always been a complicated matter for everyone trying to learn the language. However, children today have found joy in spelling because they have fun with the words through the phonics concept.
CIC had organized the spelling contest week on 7th - 11th April 2008 where students are tested to spell words in English. The aim is to help children learning English words, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop the correct usage of the languages that will help them as well as to create public awareness on the importance of spelling.
“We initiate the Spelling Contest with the purpose to teach the children to compete positively, enjoy learning, especially to spell in a fun and creative way. We also want to develop first class citizens by introducing it at early stage.” said Puan Qutren Nada Ahmad, founder of CIC.
Divided into two categories, contestants will be assessed on their written and oral skills. The spelling challenge grants students unique opportunity to express themselves creatively and innovatively by correctly spelling the words.
This spelling method has benefited millions of children in this world. It is the vision of CIC to bring out the best in every child.

CIC Swimming class

CIC Swimming class has come to its second session this year. Now CIC organizes it on monthly basis at a public swimming pool, Kompleks Kejiranan Presint 16, Putrajaya.
Classes are divided into 2 categories; according to the skill levels. Classes ranged from the total beginner level to the advanced level. Water safety program is also taught to promote greater level of water confidence.
CIC initiates this special activity because we believe that learning swimming in professional way will help the child to develop strength, coordination, confidence and greater mental agility. It also helps in the development of a stronger respiratory system: Stronger heart and lungs. Most importantly, learning swimming is essential as human ability.
Children, through consistent learning and repetition, can happily propel themselves with ease and confidence in water. The emphasis throughout is on allowing children to proceed at their own pace without being pressurized. Praise, hugs, kisses and the joy of their accomplishments motivate them to take on new challenges.

Children and water are like toast and jam, they go together. Burning the toast will result in the food being rejected. Dropping a young child into a pool’s deep end will most likely result in the child rejecting water recreation for a long time. A little fear is a bad taste that lingers for a lifetime

As part of continuing effort to produce children who is able to read Quran and able to speak English, Children Islamic Center(CIC) will introduce a new activity in Delima program. This activity which is known as ‘creating stories’ will be conducted every day as alternate activity during the time that they learn Iqra’ in the afternoon. This ‘creating stories’ program is designed for the children who are learning English as second language and to those who are spending minimum 5 hours at CIC.

CIC believes that language development of a child will improve through story-telling, either they receive and respond to stories from other people or better if they make stories of their own. It is important for children to feel that they can make stories out of their own experience, not just rely on the stories they receive from other people. CIC main motives are to help the children to enjoy making stories and to be willing to try to use their limited amount of the second language creatively.

In other words when children create and tell a story in a foreign language the story and language become theirs. To those parents who share the same objectives are welcome to choose CIC to educate their children. CIC is an Islamic child development centre which put great importance in learning English. Medium of instruction is bilingual and majority of books including religious books are in English. CIC was established since 1997 and today it is operated in Putrajaya, Puchong Utama, Kota Damansara, Taman Ibu Kota Kiri (Setapak), Bandar Baru Bangi, Bandar Darulaman and Kota Bharu.
